Life Coaching involves assisting you to transition from where you are now to where you want to be. Life Coaching is in most cases conducted over the phone, but can also occur via email, face to face and even in groups. People who experience Life Coaching often set bigger goals, achieve them more quickly and finish what they start. People's motivation during Life Coaching tends to come from one of two scenarios: either they want to move away from something or they want to move towards something.
The Role of Coach
The coach provides accountability, encouragement, recommendations, feedback and practical techniques such as reminders, questions and monitoring to help you stay on track to meet your goals. It is a partnership to develop strategies to address issues such as time management, finishing projects that have been left undone in all areas of your life including but not limited to; vocational, domestic issues, spiritual, relational, financial and educational. My role as a coach is to help you become more effective in one's personal and professional life. While I am a licensed clinical social worker and my education and experience contribute to my success as a coach, my role as a coach is NOT as a psychotherapist and to work on psychological issues, but to focus on the “here and now” and to provide support and practical strategies to reach your goals.
The Client's Role
You are in the "driver's seat" and are the "boss of you!" The coaching relationship is driven by what you want to accomplish in your life. For coaching to be successful you must possess a strong motivation for personal growth and improvement. Coaching works best when the client is ready to participate in an "action-oriented" process to reach their goals.
The Focus of Life Coaching
Action Steps - The specific instructions of what to do when. Life Coaching produces clear stepping stones for you to take one foot in front of the other.
Strategies - Life Coaching takes into account the competing human and environmental factors that stand in the way of you achieving your goals. We look at what and who contribute to and detract from your personal power in a situation / workplace / family / or game plan.
Reflection - A Life Coach will provide the opportunity to reflect upon what has been working for you and what has not been working for you. Reflection generates insight which allows us to grow and build upon past experiences.
It's all about you! - Most people have never experienced an hour of someone paying complete attention to them, let alone an hour every week! This is a liberating experience which gives you the space to honestly explore your goals, strategies and provides support during the ups and downs.
Motivation - Life Coaching breathes wind into your sails every session. This helps you to maintain momentum over time and gives you the fuel to follow through.
Positive Milestones - Life Coaching involves cheering you on, celebrating positive milestones along the way.
How Does Life Coaching Work?
We set a regular time to talk (over the phone), usually once a week. As call costs are included in your consultation fee, so I call you at the agreed appointment time. Typically a coaching session lasts around 45 minutes. I don't coach with a stopwatch... you may want 30 minutes one week and an hour the next - it's up to you. You can quit anytime, and vary the number of sessions we have each month to suit your needs. Before the Initial Life Coaching Consultation I email you some questions to consider - which will help us get started.
